선수행의 핵심은 무엇인가요? 선을 수행할 때 제일 먼저 해야 할 일은 무엇인가요? 이것을 영원히 기억하세요. 저의 스승님은 선지식을 찾으라고 하였습니다. 항상 선지식을 찾아야 합니다. 선지식을 찾으면 더 이상 가르침을 줄 수 없을 때까지 옆에 있으세요. 그것이 바로 대승 선입니다.

 

우리는 구합니다. 왜냐하면 그것이 우리가 사는 곳에서 하는 것이기 때문입니다. 구하지 말라는 가르침은 좋은 구함과 나쁜 구함을 구별해야함을 의미합니다. 좋은 구함과 나쁜 구함이 있습니다. 여러분 스스로 무엇이 좋은 것이고, 나쁜 것인지 압니다. 그의 가르침은 나쁜 구함은 안 된다는 것을 상기시키는 것입니다. 그것이 구하지 않음의 의미입니다. 우리는 항상 욕심이 많고 구하기 때문에 마음속 깊은 곳에서 구함이 좋지 않다는 것을 알고 있습니다. 그 가르침은 구함이 좋지 않음을 알고 있다면 하지 말라는 것을 상기시키는 것입니다. 여러분은 스스로를 멈추고 스스로 나쁜 구함을 규제해야 합니다.

 

사실, 만약 여러분이 전혀 구하지 않는다면, 그것은 여러분을 엘리트로 이끌 것입니다. 구하지 않음은 수승한 사람들에게 해당합니다. 구하지 않음은 지혜의 상태입니다.진정한 지혜가 있으면 더 이상 구하지 않습니다. 그러므로, 여러분은 구하지 않음을 배우는 것에서 시작합니다.

 

What is the core part of the Chan practice? What is the very first thing you ought to do when you practice Chan? I want you to remember this forever. Master taught me to seek for good-knowing advisor. You have to be constantly looking for a good-knowing advisor. And once you find one, stick with him until he can no longer teach you. That's Mahayana Chan.

 

We seek because that's what we do where we live. We seek. The teaching of no seeking means for you to differentiate between good seeking and bad seeking. There's good seeking and bad seeking. You yourself know what's good, and what's bad seeking. His teaching is to remind us that it's not okay for bad seeking. That's what the no seeking means. We all know that because we always are greedy and looking for things and therefore, deep in our hearts, we know that seeking is not good. The teaching is a reminder that if you know that it's not good seeking, don't do it. You have to stop yourself and regulate your bad seeking yourself.

 

Actually, if you don't seek at all, it will bring you to the elite. The non-seeking is for those people who are superior. Not seeking is a state of wisdom. When people have real wisdom, they don't seek it anymore. Therefore, you start at the bottom by learning not to seek.
