보시, 덕, 금강 49) Chan Qi • The Avatamsaka Sutra - Chapter 01 (90) - 20240114

누군가를 도우려고 할 때 이를 통해 무엇을 얻을 것인지 그만 생각하세요. 이는 불자들에게도 문제입니다. 그들은 너무 많은 것을 알고 있습니다. 지금 계산을 합니다. 보시바라밀은 나에게 매우 유익하기 때문에 보시바라밀을 수행해야 한다고 말합니다. “내가 무엇을 할 수 있지? 어떻게 복을 극대화할 수 있지? 복을 짓기 위해 이 기회를 어떻게 이용하지?” 여전히 복을 짓지만 마음이 너무 좁고 이기적이기 때문에 여전히 유한한 복입니다. 참된 불자들은 스스로 계산하지 않고 베풉니다. 다른 사람을 돕고 자신의 복과 이익을 계산하기 때문에 복과 이익은 매우 제한적입니다. 그냥 베풀고 잊어버리세요.

덕은 희생이 요구됩니다. 이는 손해를 보는 것을 의미합니다. 우리가 손해를 보는 것은 세속적인 사람들에게는 다소 어리석습니다. 우리는 손해를 감수하고 일을 합니다. 이득은 전혀 없습니다.  그것이 바로 불법을 전파하는 것입니다. 우리에게는 전혀 이득이 없습니다. 이를 덕이라고 합니다. 우리가 다른 사람을 도울 때 개인적인 이득을 위해서가 아닙니다. 개인적인 이득은 0입니다. 우리가 다른 사람을 도우면서, 자선 행위를 함으로써, 얼마나 많이 얻을지 계산하지 않습니다. 이로 인해 부처님들은 무한한 복덕의 상을 지닙니다.

 

염광천왕念光天王은 부처님의 복덕의 상을 끊임없이 마음속에 새깁니다. 그렇게 해서 그는 깨달음을 얻었습니다. 끊임없이 위대한 일과 위대한 결과를 마음속에 새기면서 깨달음을 얻습니다. 그는  위대한 행을 마음속에 새기면서 복과 위엄을 얻었습니다. 그는 사악한 생각, 혹은 이기적인 생각이 자신의 마음속에 몰래 들어오는 것을 전혀 허락하지 않았습니다. 반면에 우리는 자신을 이롭게 하고자 하는 이기적인 생각이 있습니다. 그래서 무지와 어리석음은 여전히 숨고 자라날 곳이 있습니다. 염광천왕은 부처님이 하신 모든 위대한 일을 마음속에 새기고 그 결과로 부처님이 성취한 상을 얻었습니다.

 

불교 밖에서 파괴할 수 없는 것을 찾을 수 있습니까? 이 세상에는 파괴 불가능한 것이 없습니다. 왜냐하면 이 세상의 모든 것은 생하고 그렇기 때문에 반드시 죽습니다. 그래서 우리는 더 이상 파괴할 수 없는 세속적인 것들을 추구하지 않습니다. 우리가 하는 것은 파괴할 수 없는 체를 만드는 것입니다. 우리는 금강을 채굴합니다. 선칠에 다리를 틀고 있을 때 우리는 실제로 금강을 채굴하고 있습니다. 그 금강은 파괴 불가능합니다. 이 때문에 채굴을 성공적으로 완료하면 파괴 불가능한 것에 접근할 수 있습니다. 그 물질을 금강라고 합니다. 

 

우리가 왜 그렇게 합니까? 42수안을 할 때, 여러분은 금강 무기를 채굴하고 연마하는 것입니다. 그래서 언젠가, 여러분이 이 금강 무기들을 달성하면, 여러분은 그것들을 사용하여 마의 힘으로부터 세상을 지킬 수 있습니다. 그들은 우리의 금강 무기를 파괴할 수 없습니다. 우리가 그들에게 무기를 사용하면, 그들의 무기는 파괴될 것입니다. 우리의 것은 파괴할 수 없습니다. 그래서 우리는 금강를 채굴하여 세상을 방어하는 무기로 만들어야 합니다. 언젠가, 여러분이 세상을 방어할 수 있는 금강 무기가 더 이상 없을 때, 마의 무기가 여러분을 압도할 수 있을 때, 세상은 파괴될 것입니다. 그래서 우리는 파괴와 고통으로부터 세상을 방어하는 것을 돕고 있습니다. 이 마들은 실제로 우리의 세상을 파괴할 계획을 세우고 힘을 모으고 있습니다. 여러분은 그것을 방어할 필요가 있습니다. 왜 그렇습니까? 왜냐하면 우리는 도울 수 있기 때문입니다. 만약 우리가 돕지 않았다면, 누가 돕겠습니까?

 

When you try to help someone, please stop thinking about what you're going to gain out of this. This is the problem even with Buddhist disciples. They know too much. Now, they calculate. They said I'm supposed to practice giving paramita because it's very beneficial for me. “Let me see what can I do, and how can I give to maximize my blessings? How can I take advantage of this opportunity to plant my blessings?” They're still creating blessings, but still finite blessings because your mind is so narrow and self-serving. The true Buddhists do giving and giving without calculating for themselves. Since you help others and calculate your blessings and your benefits, your blessings and benefits are very limited. Just give and forget.

 

 

Virtues require you to make sacrifices, meaning taking losses. It's rather stupid to worldly people that we take losses. We do things just to take losses. No gains at all. And that's what Dharma propagation is about. It's totally no gain to us at all. And that's called virtue. When we help others, it's not for the sake of personal gains. There are zero personal gains. It's no calculation to see how much we gain from helping others, from doing acts of charity. Because of that, Buddhas have infinite marks of blessings and virtue.

 

 

Celestial King Light of Mindfulness constantly keeps in mind the Buddha's marks of blessings and virtue. And that's how he became enlightened. You become enlightened by constantly keeping in mind great things and great results. He has to do to attain those blessings and adornments by keeping in mind those great deeds. He would not allow evil thoughts, or selfish thoughts to sneak into his mind at all. Whereas we have these selfish thoughts to benefit ourselves. And because of that, your ignorance and stupidity still have places to hide and grow. Whereas this King Light of Mindfulness is mindful of all the great things that the Buddhas did and the end result is the marks of adornments that Buddhas attained.

 

Can you name anything outside of Buddhism that is indestructible? There's nothing in this world is indestructible because everything in the world has a birth, and therefore, it must die. That's why we are no longer seeking to have indestructible worldly things. What we do is create something called a substance that is indestructible. We mine Vajra. What we do when we cross our legs in Chan Qi, we actually are mining our Vajra. That Vajra is indestructible. And because of that, when you successfully complete your mining process, you will be able to have access to something that is indestructible. And that substance is called Vajra. Why would we want to do that?

 

When you do the hands and eyes, you're mining and honing your Vajra weapons. So that one day, when you accomplish these Vajra weapons, you can use them to defend the world against the demonic forces. They cannot destroy our Vajra weapons. When we use our weapons against them, theirs will be destroyed. Ours are indestructible. That's why we need to mine our Vajra so that we turn them into weapons to defend the world. One day, when you have no more Vajra weapons to defend the world, the demon's weapons will prevail over all the worldly weapons. When you have no more protection, when the weapons from the demons from the demons can overwhelm you, the world will be destroyed. So that's why we are helping defend the world from destruction and of suffering. That these demons are actually plotting and gathering the forces to destroy our world. So we need to defend it. You need to help. Why? Because we can. If we didn't, who will?
